Letchworth - Matt Jacobson Letchworth

On May 22, 2005 I spent a few hours in Letchworth State Park. We weren't planning on being there for very long but the short trip quickly became a long hike through spectacular scenery.

I took over one hundred pictures of various things while there. My pictures ranged from shots of walls, to people, my feet and of course nature. I don't think these pictures or any others do the sights much justice but I couldn't resist putting a few out there.

This picture was the first area I found. I couldn't help but stand in the river bed to snap a few pictures of the water as it moved along.

This is the lowest of the three falls along the river. It's appropriately called Lower Falls. This is taken from a foot bridge over the water.

I spotted a hole in one of the walls and couldn't help myself. I assume the holes in the walls are to prevent flooding in the walkways but I used it to take a picture of the river as it began to calm again.

This is another picture of the Lower Falls. This was the end of a trail. Had I continued further the big bad park ranger would come get me. I decided to take this picture and retreat.

This picture, taken from a location known as Inspiration Point, shows both the Middle and Upper Falls in the distance. Here you can also see how the Genesee River has cut through this gorge.

Here is a closer view of the Upper Falls. Above the Upper Falls you can see a Pennsylvania Railroad bridge crossing.

Finally, a closer shot of the Pennsylvania Railroad bridge. This bridge is still in use today as I found out about twenty minutes after taking this picture. A train blew its whistle and moved very slowly across.
